The Walter Jardine Letters relate to the Grahamstown Botanical Gardens in the 1860s. Walter Jardine, was appointed Superintendent there in 1867, and there these letters include correspondence from Sir Joseph Hooker, Director of Kew Gardens, and others dealing with the acquisitions, transport and identifications of plants. The collection has been kindly donated, in 2021, by Dr WI (Ivor) Jardine. Walter Jardine, the superintendent of the Grahamstown Botanical Gardens after 1867, is Dr Jardine's great grandfather's brother. Tony Dold, the curator of the Selmar Schonland Herbarium, was instrumental in facilitating the relocation of these materials to Rhodes Unversity.
