- Description
- There have been several attempts to develop a wetland classification for South Africa, with merit in each, but a system that satisfies the needs of a wide range of professionals has been elusive. This is partly to be expected since classification systems are often user-specific. Nevertheless, and at last, the authors of Classification System for Wetlands and Other Aquatic Ecosystems in South Africa. User Manual: Inland Systems (SANBI Biodiversity Series 22) have developed a robust and comprehensive wetland classification system for South Africa that likely will have broad appeal and be widely used. Working for Wetlands, the Water Research Commission (WRC) and SANBI provided considerable support for the development of this system and there was expert input from a wide range of stakeholders.
