T. butleri Distant 1912 is found on the coastal plateau of southern Mocambique and the adjoining tropical part of South Africa. Tugelana is most closely related to the genera Azanicada Villet 1989, Systophlochius Villet 1989 and Platypleura Amyot and Serville 1843, which form a clade within the tribe Platypleurini Schmidt 1918.
