- Since the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, in the wake of the bomb-ings of the Twin Towers on 11 September 2001, there has been even greater interest in understanding the role of the media in constructing interpretations of conflict. Although his analysis was concerned with the Euro-American context, the questions posed by Hamelink (2003: xxiii) are relevant to the African situation.
