  • Description: The four drummers were the chief singers together with their women. Malimba 2 xylophones, on frames without resonators.. 3 goblet drums, once called Itumba and the others Mutumbwe. The Itumba drum was a closed drum with a mirliton fixed into its side, 20" high and with 12 1/2" membrane. The Mutumbwe drums were both weighted with paste to lower their pitch, and had similar mirlitons. The large slit drum, Kunri, was insulated from the ground as it had no legs. In this respect the slit drums behave physically like a xylophone note and must be supported at the two nodes or they will not sound properly.   • Description: Drums. Kayanda - conical, open, pegged and weighted (-14.2-). Mitumbwe - goblet, pinned, closed and weighted (-14.52-). Ditumba - goblet, pinned, closed, mirliton (-14.51251-). The drums enter one after the other and end in the same way. The difference in tone between the weighted and the unweighted membranes of the drums can be clearly heard - the weighted drums being both lower in tone and also emitting a slightly slurred or portamento tone, while the unweighted drum sounds a clear hollow note.   • Description: The Kilnerton Training Institution, affiliated to the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, was established in 1886 in the small suburb of Weaving Park, Pretoria. The Institution was named after Rev. John Kilner, who encouraged the formation of an indigenous clergy in South Africa. The mission of the Institution was to provide seminary education to locals in preparation for ordination. In and above providing seminary education, Kilnerton also served as a primary and secondary school for children in the local community. The Institution is known for some of its illustrious past students, including Dikgang Moseneke (Deputy Chief Justice), Sefako Makgatho, Miriam Makeba, Lillian Ngoyi and Thomas Masekela. , This image is held at the Cory Library for Humanities Research at Rhodes University.   • Description: The 'Diviner' was a young man dressed in a full cotton skirt, leaving the torso bare, and wide ropes of beads crossed diagonally across the chest. He wore a red silk head-kerchief and was accompanied by a small boy dressed in similar fashion. Although the singers said, at the time, that the name of the song was "Kilumbu" it would appear from the recording that it is more correctly "Kaiyombo." Recorded at the Camp de Nepoko, Elephant Training Centre, Ituri Forest, Andudu. Copied from disc. Two Songs welcoming the Diviner. One wooden cylindrical slit drum, one small conical laced drum and one small bass drum.

Apparently the plan was not successful as Sheik Kinyiri is still alive, as fat and happy as ever. The set of Budongo Likembe covers a range of four octaves from 1040 vs. down to 65 vs. Topical song, with 6 Budongo box resonated Likembe.
